Over the past 3 years, the Burnaby School District’s Advanced Placement program has offered an innovative diploma option for Grade 11 & 12 student called AP Capstone.
Last month, as part of the program, AP Capstone students Dion Chau, Austin Li, Kevin Chen, Shea Janke and Oliver Tong, travelled to Okinawa, and Tokyo, Japan to present their research to students at Tokyo Gakugei University International Secondary school and immerse themselves in Japanese culture. Students and staff from Tokyo Gakuegi, who have a similar research program, have come every year to Burnaby South to participate in a language and cultural exchange with Burnaby South students.
This is the second year the Capstone Students have travelled to Japan, as we continue to build the relationship amongst the two schools and provide our students an opportunity to explore new ideas, perspectives and approaches in academic relationships and collaboration that is the basis of world class scholarship. The experience will continue to build on the exciting learning opportunities of the AP Capstone program at Burnaby South and in the Burnaby district.
