Dear Graduates and Families:
I am writing with an update on graduation plans.
As you know, the ban on gatherings of 50 or more impacts graduation celebrations, and while we all understand that these measures were put in place with our collective health and safety in mind, we also want to mark this important milestone in your lives. Unfortunately, the regular District Commencement Ceremonies and school Grad Dinner & Dance celebrations have been cancelled.
Despite the impact of COVID-19, you deserve a graduation recognizing your 13 years of accomplishments in public education. While it won’t look the same as years past, we will do our best to make it memorable and festive. The District Commencement Ceremony will be replaced with a virtual ceremony in the week of June 22, 2020. We will also cover the cost of a commemorative cap, tassel, stole and gown for every graduate to keep so all grads can take special graduation photo as well as a souvenir diploma folder and program, and a composite photo of your class.
We will also be consulting with our Grad Council and parents to get ideas about how we can make this year’s celebration unique to South. We look forward to your input for creative ideas that would help make this special for you.
You have already made so many sacrifices and adaptations since Spring Break finished. We are proud of your resiliency and dedication to your continued learning. We are proud of all you have accomplished in your 13 years at school. While it’s not what we all thought would happen when your Grade 12 year began, we are excited to celebrate with you.
Graduates, please follow the following link to a form that will allow you to personalize what you would like said about you in the ceremony Grad Write Up 2020
Please note, refunds for School Leaving Ceremony and Grad Dinner Dance now been issued.
Take good care of yourself and your loved ones.
All the very best,
