Graduation Event 2021 Information

The following letter from Ms. Victoria Lee, Principal, was emailed to all parents and students regarding Graduation Event 2021 information.

Dear Graduates and Families:

I would like to provide you with some more detailed information about the Graduation Events planned for this extraordinary year. As mentioned in my last letter, due to the Covid 19 Safety Guidelines imposed by the Provincial Health Officer and the Ministry of Education, in-person School Leaving Ceremonies and Dinner and Dance celebrations will not occur in Burnaby.

Virtual School Leaving Ceremony

This event will replace the in-person event that historically has been held at Copeland Arena.  This year, we will instead be creating a Virtual School Leaving Ceremony.  This ceremony will include speeches by our District Trustee and our Superintendent of Schools, the Principal and the class Valedictorian. It will also include a picture and profile of each of our graduates. A link for this ceremony will be available on June 28.

Graduation Cap and Gown

Each student will be supplied with a commemorative graduation cap and tassel and a gown to keep as a memento.

Photo Opportunity

A photo opportunity will take place in MJ Fox on June 28 and 29.  Students will be invited to bring two family members/friends with them for a brief opportunity to take photos of them walking across the stage of MJ Fox holding their diplomas. We will also have a professional photographer taking a photo of each graduate.  I will also be on the stage to welcome the students and take photos with them.  Event sign-up information will be sent out in early June.

Gift from our PAC

Each student will also receive a Grad 2021 Souvenir Bag, designed by our own graduates.  This gift is a gesture from our Parent Advisory Council to recognize their achievements in this difficult time.

Fees

The fee for the above events, including the commemorative cap and gown, diploma and one professional photograph, will be $45 per student. Payments may be made through our School Cash Online (School Cash Online ) system. Please note that PAC is offering a limited number of grants for students who are unable to pay this fee.  Please contact your child’s counsellor if you would like to apply for this support.

We look forward to honoring our graduates for their resiliency and hard work.
